South African hemp trials

After years of persistence and lobbying Hemporium has reached a major stepping stone in developing a hemp industry in South Africa. Tony Budden from Hemporium has created a lot of good publicity for hemp, changing peoples attitudes to the amazing plant through the products his brand sells. Not only that he has built South Africa’s most sustainable house, from hempcrete, hemp board and furnished with a multitude of hemp products.

Since the planting on the 1st of November 2012 the 5 different varieties have grown phenomenally, some doing better than others. They have also had to survive winds of 130km’s. The crop will give good insight into what strains of hemp do well in this region of our country and hopefully open doors to a fully functional hemp industry in South Africa, from farmers to end user products in multiple sectors of industry. Hemp has the potential to create thousands of environmentally sustainable jobs, lets hope the government really gets behind hemp.
